If anyone has been near the Marble Arch area, you may have noticed a brand new building! Ok, a brand new building in London may not be all that exciting, but the interesting thing about this new building is the exhibition that is currently featured on the bottom windows. The windows have been adorned by photos of people from all over the world; from over 200 countries! This exhibition is called The World in London. London is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, here at Korean Class MASSIVE we have a British Hong Kongnian, a Jamaican Italian and an Oxfordian, and we all met here in this wonderful capital city at a Korean language class and lived happily ever after.
The World in London presents portraits of Londoners by British and international photographers taken from 2009 – 2012. Each portrait shows a person or people from one of the 204 nations taking part in the London 2012 Games, accompanied by individual stories. The World in London is a celebration of Londoners and demonstrates photography’s ability to capture the human form in interesting and distinct ways. The project is organised by The Photographers’ Gallery and forms part of the London 2012 Festival, the finale of the Cultural Olympiad.
So why not head down and check out all the interesting portraits. Can you spot the Korean Londoner? Do you know anyone on the wall of photos? Could that be a distant relative? This exhibition is a great reminder of how many interesting cultures are present here in this capital.
Through our love for Korean culture, it has given us a chance to meet people from all over the world, all fellow Korea fans. It is really interesting how one culture can have the ability to bring people together from so many different walks of life. It’s about time that this multicultural city gets a bit of the Hallyu wave action! Directors every month, artists all around, SHINee, Cube, EXO-K, Norazo, now CN Blue, and possibly Big Bang too? 2012 has been an epic year for London so far!
This exhibition will be up until 30 August 2012 just head down to Oxford street, the building opposite Selfridges and Marks and Spencers :)
This exhibition was organised by The Photographers’ Gallery; the largest public gallery in the UK dedicated to photography. Located in London’s Soho, they present a range of free exhibitions and activities related to photography in all its forms. The World in London is generously supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Arts Council England
