London Fashion Week is upon us again and this time Spring/Summer 2014 lines will be showcased from Friday 13th Sept to Tuesday 17th September and will be featuring catwalks from two Korean designers. On Friday 13th Sept, both designers J. JS Lee and Eudon Choi return to London fashion week to show the public their creative and innovative fashions for the upcoming Spring and Summer seasons. London Fashion Week is globally famous and these catwalks are a great opportunity for everyone to see just what London-based Korean designers are up to.
J. JS Lee | Show: 13th Sept 12pm at the BFC Courtyard Show Space | Official Website
After gaining experience in Seoul, J. JS Lee is becoming quite a regular at London Fashion week. She came to London to attend Central Saint Martins, where she did an MA 2010 womenswear. Upon graduating, her designs earned her much buyer and press attention and she even received the Harrod’s Award, which meant that her collection appeared in the windows of the infamous Knightsbridge department store! Launching her own label she has since continued to gain notoriety in the fashion world. She’s inspired by the sleek and chic androgynous look and her aim with her label is to create a look which “defines a modern woman who is concerned with looking sharp in a uniquely feminine way” (quote).
Her collection for this upcoming Fashion Week is set to feature her signature chic and modernist tailoring style. This collection will also be part of BFC NEWGEN sponsored by TOPSHOP. NEWGEN aims to “offer catwalk designers financial support towards their show costs and the opportunity to use the BFC Catwalk Show Space. Others receive sponsored presentation or exhibition space to showcase their collections, offering an important introduction for young UK-based designers to influential press and buyers from around the world”. (quote)
Check out her catwalk show highlights from this February’s London Fashion Week, featuring her A/W 2013 looks. We can expect some signature elegant tailoring and simplistically chic designs from her this LFW for sure. If you’d like to see her design’s for yourself at UK Stockists, Dover Street Market.
Eudon Choi | Show: 13th Sept 4pm at SW1 | Official Website | Facebook | Twitter
Trained as a menswear designer in Seoul, then studying in London at the Royal College of Art in an MA in womenswear, Eudon Choi has an extensive background in fashion, and his own line, and his talent has been recognised extensively. His designs, which have a signature style of “masculine yet feminine…. [using] sartorial techniques and masculine cuts to shape the female form” (quote), are available at a variety of stockists in the UK, including the very iconic Selfridges (full list of stockists can be seen here).
It was also announced in July that he’d be teaming up with popular high street choice, River Island, where he’ll be designing a 16-piece collection. Rihanna has recently had a very successful collab with this chain and regarding this upcoming project, Eudon is quoting to have said, “as an emerging designer, the opportunity to work with a major high street retailer is an incredible opportunity. My mainline collections are sold in high end stores and I love the idea that people all over the UK will be able to buy this collection” (source). Well if it’s good enough for Rihanna! This collection will actually have it’s début screening at LFW’s Fash/on Film event on 15th September! The collection is said to go on sale in selected stores and online from 23rd September, and prices range from £30 to £250.
At this upcoming LFW, Eudon’s collection will be inspired by Asia’s flora and nature, showing a “gentle feminine beauty”. How very quaint and perfect for the Spring/Summer seasons! To get a taste of Eudon’s style and designs, take a look at his Spring/Summer 2013 LFW.
Both J. JS Lee and Eudon Choi have become regular names on the London Fashion Week scene and it’s great to see two such bright and innovative designers fly the South Korean flag in the UK Fashion Scene. Both have very different designs yet have a strong sense of that beautiful Korean understated elegance underlining their collections. Don’t forget to look out for fellow Korean designer Yeashin Kim who showcased her designs at the Fashion Scout’s One to Watch initiative at February’s LFW. Fashion Scout’s One to Watch initiative is known to propel fresh talents into the limelight and since then Yeashin Kim has been working hard on her latest collection which feature some amazingly fabulous Korean inspired details and accessories. You can get yourself a Yeashin piece at Selfridge’s upcoming pop up shop, featuring specially commissioned t-shirts from designers of the Bright Young Things project: (launches 2nd September pre-LFW)
Yeashin will also be taking part in the Fashion Scout at London Fashion week but this time with her very own Catwalk along with a number of other talented fashion designers including Yong Kyunshin and his quirky abstract pieces as well as Korean-born Hwan Heo’s Heohwan Simulation label.
