Korean fashion designer Yeashin Kim, who we’ve previously interviewed, is currently one of Selfridges’ ‘Bright Young Things 2013‘, which starts today. This initiative aims to give emerging stars in a range of creative industries the chance to showcase their talents in store at the iconic Selfridges in London.
The big names at Selfridges started out as graduates and apprentices striving to bring something fresh and innovative to our wardrobes and homes. That’s why ‘Bright Young Things’ is back for its biggest year yet, as they hand over their infamous Oxford Street windows and The Concept Store to some of the most exciting young creatives in the UK.
Selected by a Selfridges panel led by Creative Director Alannah Weston, the Bright Young Things of 2013 are 15 UK-based rising stars from the worlds of fashion, art, design and food. All recent graduates or emerging professionals, the Bright Young Things were shortlisted on the strength of their creative vision and the outstanding quality of their craft. (source)
Yeashin’s womenswear designs beautifully mix traditional Korean influences and ideals with the iconic 60s London look, creating innovative and unique pieces. If you’d like to know more about her as a designer, her influences and life in London, make sure you check out our interview with her here. Her official ‘Bright Young Things’ profile can be found here.
As part of ‘Bright Young Things’, Yeashin’s fashions get pride of place in one of Selfridges’ famous window displays! If you’re passing by the London store, keep an eye out as it’s already up! Check out the amazing headgear!
She’ll also be in store for a special event on September 11th from 3pm – 7pm where she’ll be hosting “a fun photobooth where you can get your very own selfie done and hear from Yeashin about her designs” – full details can be found here.
Of course, not only can you look at her designs in store, but you can also purchase them! There’s a handy online shop for those who can’t make it to the London department store in person. If you want to see what’s available from Yeashin, check out this link for the online shop. Although they may be outside the budget bracket for some of us, window shopping will give you idea of how she mixes Korean and London influences and blends them into stylish and beautiful clothes. Intricate Korean designs, some reminiscent of Hanboks, have been mixed with the sleek 60s look. These dresses are beautifully made, with amazing details and incorporates a range of sophisticated colour tones, from soft to bright, making the whole range truly unique.
So if you have the time, pop by Selfridges in London to check out her work!
