K-Arts Dance Company have performed all around the world from Paris, Tokyo, Beijing to Stockholm and at many prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Centre at Washington DC. Now they will be having their very first UK performance at the Laban Theatre and we’ve been promised an enchanting Triple Bill that offers a unique melding of modern contemporary dance and Korean culture.
The intent and the beauty in the gesture of bowing in Eastern Culture is explored in Hommage (Bow). In Reflection, the moments of connection we experience in life are reflected in illusions of the body. The elegant No Comment looks at the way silence can speak volumes, with use of minimalism, skill and strength in the Korean tradition.
This performance will then be followed by a symposium hosted by the Korean Cultural Centre and chaired by Mirella Bartrip the Director of Dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. The Panel includes Mi-sook Jeon, Director, Korea National University of the Arts, Contemporary, School of Dance and Chang-ho Shin, Professor, Korea National University of the Arts, Contemporary, School of Dance. The symposium will consist of a presentation followed by a discussion and short Q&A session.
A symposium to provide a platform for scholars, practitioners and industry professionals to engage in new discourse around current cultural trends and landscape in contemporary dance and choreography as well as to enhance the cultural exchange in the contemporary dance sector between Korea and the UK by the development of collaborative projects between the two countries.
This is a very rare opportunity to see a very different side of Korean dance in the UK. It will no doubt be breath taking and a night to remember. Whether you’re familiar with Korean culture or not, if you’re a fan of dance, this event is not to be missed as you’ll be able to get involved and take part in engaging discussions about contemporary dance from all different cultures. Tickets can be purchased via the Lanban Event webpage.
The Laban Theatre Bar will be open for drinks between the performance and the symposium
